Monthly Favourites | January 2016

Oh my God that month just flew by but at the same time Christmas feels like it was ages ago. Has everyone been sticking to their new years resolutions? If not you can always start again tomorrow anyways!! January was only a practice month.

Today I bringing you my very first monthly favourites of 2016. Now before we go any further it only contains three products but they are the really, really good products. For the remainder of 2016 my monthly favourites will be published on the last day of each month and will contain varying amounts of products depending on how many really wowed me in the four weeks prior.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

Retailing at €46.00 this gorgeous palette more than earned it's spot in my monthly favourites. I honestly think I have used it every day I wore makeup since it arrived. It has a gorgeous collection of nudes and browns with some bold bright and dark shades thrown in. In my opinion it would make a fabulous palette for a beginner to makeup or someone who doesn't have a huge selection of eyeshadows as it enables you to easily create both subtle and dramatic looks. In saying that I have hundreds of eyeshadows and I am still obsessed with it.

If you like the look of the UDxGwen palette then you need to get your skates on because it is limited edition and selling fast by all accounts. If you would like to read more about this palette or see more images of it you can check out my full review post here.

Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Shimmering Dry Body Oil

December saw the launch of a new addition to the Cocoa Brown family. Initially launched in Penneys/Primark it is now making it's way onto the shelves of pharmacies and supermarkets. I can only imagine that it is disappearing off them just as quick. I work in a pharmacy focusing on the beauty end of things and we get asked numerous times a day for it. It retails at €11.50 which is way more affordable than other competitors on the market.

The top image is the Cocoa Brown 1Hr Mousse in shade Dark alone and the bottom image has a layer of Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Shimmering Dry Body Oil over it.

If you haven't already seen this product it is a stunning dry oil with an luminous shimmer that has numerous uses. You can apply it alone to give a dewy glow to the skin, you can apply it over your Cocoa Brown tan for a gorgeous sparkling finish or you can use it as part of your makeup routine as a highlighter. The shimmer it gives is insane!! I always get loads and loads of compliments on it when I am wearing it. If you want to know more about the Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Oil you can read my full review here.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder

So I was in the market for a new powder and I always sway towards loose powders because I like a totally matte finish to my foundation. As well as that I find I have quite an oily t-zone so a loose powder really helps to combat it. Recently at a blogger event in my local Debenhams I was chatting a member of the Urban Decay team about my options when it came to their powders and she recommended their Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder.

Lads I haven't looked back since. I have worn it with both highstreet and high end foundations and it always always keeps my makeup shine free for the day. A good piece of advice I got years ago for applying powder was to tap it into your skin with your brush rather than just dust it over and across it. This really sets the foundation in place to help you stay flawless all day long. I can't actually remember was I paid for it. I think it was around the €30.00 mark but it was soooo worth it and I will definitely be repurchasing it.

Have any of you guys tried the products I have featured above? What did you think of them? Also I would really like to know what you have been loving this month.

Declare Essential Eye Lifting Serum

Thankfully because I am in my early 20's fine lines and wrinkles aren't something that effect me (yet) but I do however suffer from dark circles and puffiness.

50 Random TMI Questions

So I am pretty sure all you guys or atleast all of you snapchat users have seen the latest craze to sweep social media and that it the 50 Random TMI Questions tag. After being tagged by my lovely friend Meggan from Cardigan Jezebel blog I was going to put this on my Snapchat (liploublog) story but to be honest I wouldn't know when to stop talking and I would rather put some proper thought into my answers. I feel by answering the questions in an actual post it will benefit new and existing followers. Also I won't disappear after twenty four hours.

1: What are you wearing?
Right now I am wearing a Frozen pyjamas and my boyfriend's hoodie... I know... I am SO glamorous.

2: Ever been in love?
I fell in love with my current boyfriend the second I saw him and I still feel that same way everytime I look at him.

3: Ever had a terrible breakup?
While I may have thought they were terrible at the time looking back they really weren't so no.

4: How tall are you?
I am 5''5... I think.

I actually have no idea and no intention on checking.

6: Any tattoos?
Nope I have no tattoos but do have an idea for one someday, maybe!

7: Any piercings?
I only have my ears pierced and I got them done when I was like 18!! I don't even wear earrings much. I only wear them for occasions really.

8: OTP?
I actually actually google what OTP means and I think it means my favourite couple... If so, I am going to say Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass. I am hooked on Gossip Girl at the moment.

My favourite colour is baby pink. Anytime I day dream about my wedding day I see lots and lots of baby pink.

It depends. I like loud music if I am getting ready to head out or cleaning and I like soft music if I am unwinding or relaxing.

I don't get sad very often to be honest but if I do I usually go to either my mam, sisters, boyfriend or a friend to talk.

Someone who is too forward, rude or boring.

26: The reason I joined YouTube?
I haven't. I dabbled in it but I need to up my game regarding equipment first.

Review & How To // ImPRESS Nails

Are you someone who is always last minute getting ready for big occasions or nights out? Are you someone who is a big dodgy at nail painting or are you someone who likes something quick and easy when it comes to a beauty routine? If you are any or all of these people then you need to give the ImPRESS Nails a go!!

99.9% of the time I either have acrylic extensions or CND Shellac on my nails but recently I was given the opportunity to try out the ImPRESS nails so I thought why not? I received four sets. There was nude, grey, burgundy and a gorgeous navy shade. I am going to be totally honest here and admit that I don't hold much mass on press on or glue on nails BUT for the purpose of research and curiosity I gave them a go.

I am happy to report that I was more than pleasantly surprised by the ImPRESS nails. In comparison to other press on nails I have used in the past they were miles and miles better. They were easier to apply, they looked better on the nail and more importantly they last really well. I know what it's like when you are applying false nails...your going grand one minute and next thing you know your hand is glued to the kitchen table!! The best part of these nails for me is the fact that they use no glue whatsoever there for making both application and removal much easier.

My top tips for perfect application
  • First things first you want to measure the ImPRESS nails next your own and line them up so that they are ready to go.
  • Next you need to buff the surface of your nail using a gentle buffer. I love the OPI Flex 220/280. This step isn't essential but I find it helps.
  • Starting with your pinkie, grab the ImPRESS nail that fits, peel of the backing and press it on. For best results aim for the centre of the base of your nail.
  • Once you are happy with where the nail is positioned all you need to do is press and hold for the next sixty seconds or so.
  • Repeat the above on all ten fingers and voila, in a matter of minutes you have a set of gorgeous nails that require no drying time whatsoever.

My top tips for removal
So when the time comes to remove your ImPRESS manicure they give you to choices, you can either peel them off or else soak them in acetone. 100% acetone can be purchased in your local beauty salon suppliers and in some pharmacies. Regular nail varnish won't cut it, purely because it only contains acetone as an ingredient and in most cases it is in a small amount. For best results and quickest removal grab the acetone if you can get your hands on it. My only problem now is deciding which colour to wear next!

I hope you guys found my post helpful. If you try out the ImPRESS nails I would love to hear how you get on. You could say I was ImPRESSed by them...I couldn't let that one go!!

Chat soon everyone.
Have a fab rest of week and weekend.

Love Melissa
